Windows Server 2008 R2に比べ幾つか機能が増えています。
追加された機能で、個人的に気になっているひとつが[IP Address Management (IPAM) Server]です。
業務上、IPアドレスの管理には悩まされることがあります。IPAM Serverが利用できるようになると管理面でも楽になると考えています。
もう一つ、気になるのはHyper-Vです。今回記事はHyper-V上で検証を行いながら執筆していましたが、仮想ファイルの形式がVHDX形式になりアクセス向上したことで、動作が軽快なっている気がしました。
また、ライブ・ストレージ・モーションのサポートで、仮想マシンを停止させることなくサーバー間の移動が行えるなど、ストレージでも強化され、VMwareに対抗する機能だと思います。
最後に
この章では、PowerShell3.0とIIS8.0と役割・機能一覧を紹介しました。
ネットワークの機能には予想以上の新機能や、強化された部分が多くあります。今後、さらに詳しく紹介されていくでしょう。
インストールマニアックス参加者としてはIISが今後OSSと係っていくのかも大いに気になります。

第1回から3回にわたって、「Windows Server 8の基本的な設定手順」としてネットワークの部分を中心に紹介いたしました。
Windows Server 8については、まだまだ紹介されていない機能が多くあります。Hyper-Vが大きく進化したことや、Windows Azureなどクラウドとの連携も話題になってくると考えられます。そして様々な場所で紹介されていくでしょう。
また、現在公開されているDP版からコンシューマープレビュー版になったとき、どのように改良が加えられてくるか期待が膨らみます。
